About CHERI Alliance

CHERI Alliance is spearheading the global adoption of the Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions (CHERI) security technology across the computing industry.

Building on over a decade of pioneering research by the University of Cambridge and SRI International, CHERI introduces a revolutionary architecture designed to enhance system security through fine-grained memory protection and software compartmentalization.

The Alliance is actively engaging with industry, academia, and the public sector to standardize and implement CHERI across a diverse range of computing platforms. Supported to date by DARPA, UKRI, EPSRC, ERC, Google, Microsoft and Arm, CHERI is a major asset in the fight against cybercrime.

The Digital Security by Design initiative helped promote and create a CHERI ecosystem in the UK. We are building on top of this to extend the work beyond initial adoption, and involve all necessary players to make CHERI available commercially, worldwide.

Who we are

We unite the entire value chain, from researchers and developers to manufacturers and end users, well as private and public sector organizations focused on safeguarding critical infrastructure and economic activities.

Our mission is to educate, advocate for, and facilitate collaboration, building an ecosystem that accelerates CHERI’s commercial adoption and strengthens the security of future technology-driven systems.

The CHERI Alliance is a non-profit, neutral and international organization based in Cambridge, UK, dedicated to ensuring CHERI technology is widely adopted to secure digital products and systems. Formed as a Community Interest Company (C.I.C.), it is regulated to ensure that its actions are aligned with the stated intent: the development and promotion of CHERI technology.

We organise activities in Working Groups focused on various topics: from joint marketing activities to technical collaboration. These groups give members the opportunity to network, gain visibility, be more efficient by sharing efforts, and learn fast from the World’s best CHERI experts, to accelerate their own developments and get a whole ecosystem behind them.
