Adam Finney – CHERI Alliance
The CHERITech’25 Conference was held on the 14th of November 2025 at the Sister – Renold Building, Manchester, bringing together leading figures from industry, academia and government to discuss the latest developments in Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions technology (CHERI) and Digital Security by Design (DSbD).
This year’s event marked a significant step forward under the leadership of the CHERI Alliance, with sessions highlighting solid progress across hardware, software and emerging standards. Keynotes from Professor John Goodacre (University of Manchester and UKRI), Paul Caseley OBE (DSTL) and Mike Eftimakis (CHERI Alliance) opened a programme that focused on real developments in capability based systems.
The conference also hosted several important announcements. The COSMIC Project, led by lowRISC in partnership with Capabilities Limited and supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and Innovate UK, will deliver an open source 64-bit CHERI capable chip reference design. Professor Robert Watson announced the establishment of the CHERI Research Centre, a new hub for research, development and coordination across the community. The Good Penguin confirmed the creation of a software hub to provide CHERI software, tools and resources that support practical adoption.
Technical sessions covered hardware implementations, toolchains, research updates and cross ecosystem integration. Speakers from Capabilities Limited, lowRISC, Codasip, Ericsson, SCI Semiconductor, Google, Wind River Systems and universities of Cambridge, Glasgow, and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) shared the latest findings and practical insights from their work.
Exhibitors including Cantech Informatics, Capabilities Limited, Codasip, lowRISC, and SCI Semiconductor demonstrated tools, platforms and prototypes that show the growing maturity of capability enabled systems.
We are genuinely grateful to all speakers, exhibitors and attendees for the time, energy and insight they brought to the day. The continued growth of CHERITech shows what can be achieved when this community comes together.
People who could not attend the event will have a chance to attend CHERITech’25 Reloaded: a virtual event on the 4th of December where recorded talks will be available and speakers from the conference will answer questions live from an international audience. Please register here.
