Strengthening the CHERI ecosystem through Open-Source innovation
We are excited to announce that The Capable Hub has become a member of the CHERI Alliance, a significant step forward in our mission to accelerate CHERI adoption. Improving the availability, quality, and upstream alignment of CHERI-enabled open-source software will make the design of CHERI-secured products easier and faster. This partnership underscores our collective commitment to fostering a collaborative ecosystem that enables companies to develop more secure products and drives innovation in cybersecurity.
The Capable Hub joins the CHERI Alliance, it will provide dedicated engineering resources and will collaborate with other members, and in particular with the CHERI Research Centre from University of Cambridge, to accelerate the transfer of the open technology from academia to industry. This will benefit all development teams, but also ultimately users of digital devices who will get rid of the most common causes of cyberattacks.
These three organisations will play complementary roles in enabling widespread CHERI adoption.
Complementary structures
The Capable Hub
Improves the availability, quality, and upstream alignment of open-source CHERI-enabled software by providing essential engineering resources and infrastructure to the CHERI ecosystem.
CHERI Alliance
Accelerates CHERI adoption, coordinates the CHERI ecosystem to collaborate on concrete projects through its Working Groups, organising events such as the CHERI Blossoms and CHERI Tech conferences, and be the “voice” of CHERI.
CHERI Research Centre
Advances secure computing through world-leading CHERI research, technology standardisation, and close collaboration with industrial adopters.
Enabling product developers
Nowadays, most products are designed by assembling ready-to-use, pre-verified elements. This brings a result faster, enabling meeting increasingly tight release deadlines, but also brings an assurance that the performance and quality will benefit from the expertise of multiple teams and the feedback of previous implementations.
The Capable Hub’s membership in CHERI Alliance marks the beginning of a dynamic partnership focused on shared goals, with four key areas of collaboration:
- The Capable Hub will actively participate and contribute engineering and expertise within CHERI Alliance Working Groups to advance important initiatives, including open-source software porting
- CHERI Alliance members will benefit from The Capable Hub’s development infrastructure, including continuous integration and a hardware-in-loop tooling, to strengthen their engineering processes
- The CHERI Alliance will provide strategic guidance through participation in The Capable Hub’s technical advisory group and steering committee
- Both organisations will work together on joint marketing initiatives to broaden the impact of the open CHERI cybersecurity technology
Bridging research and industry
The collaboration with the University of Cambridge’s CHERI Research Centre further strengthens the shared ecosystem by tightly connecting advanced research with practical innovation. The Centre will build upon software artifacts published by The Capable Hub to drive cutting edge progress in secure computing, while The Capable Hub, in turn, will consolidate and commercialize these research-driven features by integrating them into new software releases. This cycle ensures that breakthrough ideas rapidly evolve into market-ready capabilities, accelerating the delivery of advanced, secure computing technologies.
The CHERI Research Centre plays a pivotal role within the CHERI Alliance, contributing leadership, over fifteen years of experience developing CHERI, and deep research expertise to shape the future of cybersecurity. As an active and influential member, the Centre not only participates in multiple Working Groups but also leads several of them, ensuring that cutting edge research insights directly inform industry standards and best practices. Additionally, the CHERI Alliance showcases the Centre’s groundbreaking work and outcomes, helping to increase the visibility and adoption of research driven innovations across the broader secure computing ecosystem.
Driving Real‑World Impact
By joining forces with CHERI Alliance and collaborating with the CHERI Research Centre, The Capable Hub is helping to create a more cohesive and innovative cybersecurity landscape. This collaboration ensures that CHERI open-source software is not only technically robust but also aligned with the needs of both researchers and industry leaders. Together, we are building a future where secure computing is accessible, reliable, and continuously evolving.
We are excited about the opportunities this partnership brings. Stay tuned for updates on joint projects, new software releases, and initiatives that will shape the future of cybersecurity.
