Several CHERI Alliance members win the DSbD competition to deliver new CHERI chips and software

Exciting news for the CHERI community! The winners of the latest Digital Security by Design (DSbD) innovation competitions have been announced, and once again the CHERI Alliance is right at the heart of the action.

Across the two competitions – Advancing CHERI RISC-V Devices and Advancing CHERI Tools and Software – eight projects have been selected for funding. Six of the eight winners are already members of the CHERI Alliance, and with one of the remaining winners using Codasip IP, this shows the Alliance’s central role in shaping the future of secure computing! The winners are:

These projects are not just about research – they will deliver concrete, transformative results. Most notably, they will bring to market two commercial CHERI-enabled chips. This is a game-changing moment: the availability of production-grade CHERI silicon will empower developers, toolchains, and operating systems to flourish, while giving industry and academia a trusted foundation to innovate on.

The competitions, delivered by Innovate UK with funding from DSIT, mark a pivotal step in moving CHERI closer to mainstream adoption. By uniting hardware, software, and tools development, the CHERI Alliance ecosystem is proving that secure-by-design technology is not just possible – it’s happening now.

The CHERI Alliance congratulates all winners and looks forward to driving this wave of innovation together, as we build the foundations of a safer, more secure digital world.
